I figured since it is about time for us to travel home to visit the family I would start getting ready by making some of my mom's famous chocolate chip cookies. The only downfall is that 1) NZ doesn't believe in Crisco of any kind, especially not butter flavoured 2) no bittersweet nestle chocolate chippies and 3) they measure everything in grams. Can i bring those back in my suitcase?

Hi Jenna. I read this post and had to laugh out loud. My mom also has a delicious chocolate chip oatmeal cookie recipe and while in Moldova I really had to substitute many of the ingredients. Crisco is nonexistant so I used butter (just less) because I just couldn't bring myself to use pig lard (yet). Chocolate chips were substituted with a smashed chocolate bar. They certainly weren't the same as I remember but my host mom tasted them and thought I was a genius in the kitchen. Gave me some bonus points as the crazy American living with her...
